The Tour de España takes, in 2009, a year off. Because of the decision made by the Real Automóvil Club de España to withdraw from Historic Competitions, the Tour de España is postponing its eleventh edition this year. After ten years of close collaboration with the RACE teams, the Organisers of the Tour de España, haven’t found an entity capable of replacing them at a moment’s notice to ensure the correct quality of the event.

The logistical aspects of the race, planned from 8 to 13 November, (the Ascari, Jerez and Monteblanco circuits and all the hotels are already booked) were well advanced but the Organisers have preferred to cancel the edition rather than risk an approximate sporting event. Indeed, the complexity of the competition which gathers two categories –competition and regularity- implying very different intermediary controls, has driven to the postponing of the rally to have time to correctly organise this technical aspect.

The decision has been made in agreement with the event’s sponsors, particularly Cuervo y Sobrinos watches, who will continue their implication as main sponsor of the Tour de España in 2010. The eleventh edition, which will take up the route initially planned for 2009, is already under preparation to offer an event of equal quality as that of its predecessors.

The Organisers ask the drivers who had put the Tour de España in their 2009 programme to kindly excuse them for the inconvenience caused and will be back next year with the guarantee of an event always worthy of the best European competitions.
